"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God's fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts."
~Charles Spurgeon

1-2-3 CROSSCOURT!!!

Last Friday (June 13th) was the first night of our Youth Ministry's 22nd Annual Summer Volleyball Outreach. ALB has been coaching Crosscourt for 17 years now and I joined him when we got married back in 1996. This year we have the honor to, once again, coach with fellow Youth Staffers, Cindy and Mario.

During the summer months, our Youth Ministry holds a volleyball tournment for the youth of Solano and Napa Counties. "It is the desire of this Youth Ministry to challenge the young people in our community spiritually, socially, and physically. It is our purpose this summer to tell of the good news of Jesus through Bible studies, make new friends, and provide a competitive volleyball tournament. " (that comes straight out of the letter we send out to the players parents.

Every year the players play on the same team. Once they graduate, though, no more volleyball (at least in our tournament). Last year we "lost" a lot of players because they graduated. So we were anxious to hear which 7th graders was going to be placed on our team. That's done to give balance to our tournament. So that one team isn't always having to forfeit due to lack of players and another team has too many players. Anyway, I'm really excited this year because we got students who aren't familiar with the game. That means there's opportunity to teach them. If anyone can coach a rookie to play volleyball, it's my beloved! In my opinion, He's got to be one of the best (if not the best) coach!

More importantly, we have an opportunity to build relationships with these students. Again, our desire is to see them to come to a saving knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ. That's why we do this year after year.

It surely is amazing to see how the Lord has brought new players to our team, even bringing two new players on Friday.

I totally agree this is going to be an exciting summer teaching our rookie players the game and, more importantly, getting to know them and tell them about our Lord Jesus Christ!

Let's keep praying for our students!

Also, we've got to plan our get together with them. Let's try to do more than one this year.

Psalm 116: 1-9

I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.

Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.

Then I called on the name of the LORD :
"O LORD, save me!"

The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.

The LORD protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.

For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,

that I may walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.
