"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God's fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts."
~Charles Spurgeon

Garage Sales

This past Memorial Day the family and I went to the Annual Point Richmond City Wide Garage Sale. This has become a family tradition for us for the past 6 years (although we didn't get to go last year, so you can say that we've only gone for 5 years).

We try to bring some of our family with us but only my brother and his family were able to join us. It was so much fun walking up and down the streets of Point Richmond seeking treasure. I felt like I was on a treasure hunt. When I found that one thing for only $1.00, I got all excited. All of us, even the kids, were finding really great stuff. ALB was able to get reunited with his old supervisor who happens to live on the tip top hill of Point Richmond.

Afterwards, we had lunch at Sizzler in Pinole. Then stopped at a few stores at the Plaza, then went home and took a 5 hour nap! It was such a fun time! Can't wait til next year.

Belated Mother's Day

My beloved gave me a gift for Mother's Day to support my latest hobby, baking cupcakes. Since he ordered it online it took sometime to get here. Today it came! Here it is...

"What is it?" Well, it's a Cupcake Courier, of course! I've been transporting my cupcakes in the foil pans with lids, that you get at the supermarket. Those worked fine until I had to bring lots, and lots of cupcakes. With the fear of having messy cupcakes, I would often frost them when I arrived to the location. With these, there's no need to fear. These are great. Here's a description from cupcakecourier.com, "The CUPCAKE COURIER is a rectangular, translucent plastic container that holds three stackable cupcake trays. Each tray has 12 deep cups to hold each cupcake secure. It has a comfortable handle, and 4 bottom latches that hold the base securely."

Yay! Thanks honey! I love you!

Kids and Cameras

This is what happens in our home when the kids get their hands on a camera...

Honoring Mother

Thank you for your love and devotion to our family throughout the years. We love you!

Sweet Cakes Cupcakery

Before we had the kids, I took a cake decorating class with my friend, Aileen. Aileen continued on making cakes. In fact she's made a couple of wedding cakes! She's awesome! I didn't continue with the cakes because, well it's stressful! Ask Aileen, she'll agree. Ask her about the time I called her at midnight because I was having a cake dilema.

Anyway, since I got my Kitchen Aid Mixer last Christmas, I've been baking up lots of cupcakes in my kitchen. Cupcakes I can handle. No need to decorate too much. I can focus more on the taste and there's no need to mention that they're much smaller than a cake. So, I have a dream of opening a cupcakery (a bakery selling just cupcakes) sometime in my life, Lord willing. But that is a huge undertaking. So in the mean time I'm just baking cupcakes for my family and friends. I started a blog titled, "Sweet Cakes Cupcakery". You can find it under the "for our tummy rumblies" section on the right column. Here I'll be posting some of my cupcake adventures. If you'd like to visit me there, you're welcome to.

Here's a picture of the cupcake my friend Jenell and I made this afternoon. It's a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting. The ones I sent home with Jenell for her husband, Matt, had white vanilla buttercream. The ones here I tinted pink with sprinkles.

So yummy! I'm going to eat one right now....mmmm!

Cream-Filled Chocolate Sandwiches

Here's the cookie we made from the Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share. I'm not sure what the copyright law is about posting the recipe online so if you want the recipe just email me or leave a comment and I'll email it to you. Hopefully you'll enjoy them as much as we did. One quick tip, the recipe calls for unsalted butter but you can use regular butter just cut the salt from the recipe. Enjoy!

C is for Cookie

Recently my beloved purchased the Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share for me. So far I've only made 1 cookie from the book but I do plan on baking more. I have mixed feelings about Martha Stewart but I have to admit her company has so many great ideas. Notice I said her company not just her. Anyway, I'm looking forward to baking these delectable delights and my family is looking forward to eating them.

MJ's Quote of the Day

Now that MJ's 2 1/2 she's been talking in full sentences (that actually make sense). On occasion she'll tatle tale on her kuya and ate when they play too rough. She comes running to me and says:

MJ, "Mommy, Coco hit Coco."
Me, "How can Coco hit Coco?"

(she pauses for a moment)

MJ, "Mommy, Kuya hit Kuya."

Til this day, I don't know who hit who?

Busy Bees

What a busy weekend we've had. It was jam packed with Youth Ministry events. For over a month now Jennie, Liz, Janine M. and I have been planning our 2nd Spaghetti Feed fundraiser for our Youth Ministry. So Friday night was set up of the tables, Saturday morning at 7:10 am was our Discipleship meeting (that we ended up not being able to go), then we had staff meeting at our house, then Saturday afternoon til the evening was filming for our annual Movie Night. Of course when Sunday came we had service then the Spaghetti Feed. So you can imagine when we got home Sunday afternoon we were wiped out. But you know what? Since Al and I are on staff break, this weekend was a wonderful reminder of our purpose here. We here to give up of ourselves (which includes our time) to serve our Lord. Al and I got to talking after everything slowed down and said, "What a great weekend!" What an honor it is to serve our King!

Psalm 116: 1-9

I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.

Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.

Then I called on the name of the LORD :
"O LORD, save me!"

The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.

The LORD protects the simplehearted;
when I was in great need, he saved me.

Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.

For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,

that I may walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.
